I am a huge fan of Reality TV programs where the contestants show actual talent. At the top of my favorite list, right along side Project Runway would be So You Think You Can Dance. This show is about to wrap up its fourth season and I've been happily viewing since the beginning of season one. I marvel at how these dancers who are typically perfect in one field, say hip hop, are then asked to do a style that's the complete opposite like the Viennese Waltz. Or a contemporary dancer is asked to Krump and make it believable. What's even more impressive is the dancers are given roughly five hours to learn, master, and sell a dance routine that is in most cases totally foreign movement to them. In my mind I can pop-n-lock, tango, and fox trot with the best of them. In reality I have two left feet and can barely clap to a beat which for me makes the show that much more impressive.
As I said, the show is coming to an end with the finale being next week. :( This isn't a spoiler of which two guys are going through to that last episode. No. This is just me wanting to draw my two favorites from this season.
Meet Twitch.
He won me over right from the start with his smile that stretches from here to eternity. He exudes charm, humor, talent and... well... has an insane body. Here is a clip of Twitch dancing with Kherington in a piece choreographed by the immensely talented Mia Michaels. In the performance I like to imagine I'm Kherington. If that was really me instead of her, I would have ripped off my pajama top and the piece would have quickly gone NC17. Fox would have had to cut to commercials and advertisers would probably pull out and America would be mad at me. Or would I have been greeted with a standing ovation and asked to come back and host next Season? Hmmmmmm.......... But this isn't about me.
Enjoy the beauty of their dance..........
Next we have Mark.
He is so full of personality and talent. I love how perfectly goofy he is. Mark looks a little like Tim Burton created a super model/ entertainer/ dancer. I can't help but smile when I watch him dance. As Paula Abdul would say, "He's standing in his truth."
This solo is one of my favorites.
Love it, love it, love it!!!! Both guys have so much talent and are so engaging and their self deprecation makes them even more appealing. I found this next clip that has both of their audition solos. Whatever the outcome of So You Think You Dance, I'm sure both Twitch and Mark will go on to do great work.
Each drawing is done with ink on paper and took roughly 25 minutes to complete. Project Runway drawings coming shortly.
If you enjoy looking at my drawings online, the next step would be having one or two or three in your home. Interested? Click on over to my etsy shop and take a gander. And your credit card. :) Much appreciated!
