I painted two surfboards which were created by the fantastic fabricator Album Surf and the one we entered won best in show at the Board Room Show in Del Mar, CA 2014.

David Gilmore commissioned painting

Commission accomplished! Someone who purchased a painting from me last year, found a piece on my website and asked if I could make something in that direction and feel for him. The oil on canvas painting he liked I'd done in 2001 when I'd moved back to Cali after a time in NYC and it served as my goodbye to the endless stream of colorful people I'd see roaming the streets of Manhattan. It was really fun revisiting this style and finding new meaning in these characters. Very grateful to those who support my work.

Mural in Nidor Vapor Gallery

Wow, I'm behind on sharing some of my work...... At the end of November, I painted a mural in Nidor Vapor Gallery in Venice, CA.  It's a combination: vapor (e-cig) seller and gallery. Very Venice Beach. The area I painted is in the vapor lounge and as such, I created five large heads exhaling vapor. It's at 74 Market St.

Custom surfboard

Finishing up a custom surfboard. Painted the client's girlfriend on the underside of the board. I really do paint on everything.

LA Mural

I really do paint on everything......  I've spent the last four days painting a mural on the side of a building in LA.  Here's how it went.

Here's me and the wall.

There were four windows covered with gates so I decided to make the mural a triptych.  Here's the end of Day 1.  I have stuff in my back pockets giving me a nice Nicki Minaj-ish rump.  :)

Shangela!

My friends Marcelino R. and Pieter du Plessis got married this past weekend. Their ceremony was officiated by Shangela who you may know from RuPaul's Drag Race. I was a big admirer before but after watching her beautifully, humorously, and thoughtfully perform the service and then meeting and talking with her afterwards, I have a whole new level of respect. As a thank gift for Shangela, the couple commissioned me to do a portrait of her. It's 18" x 24" on a wooden panel. The background is acrylic paint, the hair, earrings, dress and body are ink and then the face is 100% makeup-- including the eyes and teeth. I wanted only the face to be in color and the rest black and white.

For the makeup I used MAC and Makeup Forever and then it's sealed for 8 coats of polyurethane. Watching Shangela unwrap the painting and then her great reaction was itself a gift to me. 

Side note: look how beautiful Shangela looks. Her makeup was perfection!

Another painted dandy......

This ginger dandy is nearly finished. He's a continuation of the face paints and drawings I've been recently creating.
