Oh my goodness gracious......... Bravo has given me my own gallery with 44 images of my drawn and painted Bravo-lebrities. Please click here to have a look. I'm having a hard time finding the right words to express my overwhelming gratitude...... I'll simply say thank you to Bravo and all those involved in making this happen. I feel like I should be wearing a crown, clutching a bouquet of red roses, and waving as I walk to end of a stage while mascara-soaked tears stream down my face. That might happen later this afternoon. :)
I've had the honor of illustrating the editors and writers at the super-duper fantastically awesome site gawker.com. The latest member of the gawker family I illustrated is Matt Cherette and here's an example of his writing.
I met my friend Tim a little over a year ago and shortly after he told me that he was writing his first book which would be titled, "Zombielicious." And as he explained the premise, I died laughing. Must have been about four to five months ago that he'd gotten a publisher and just a little over a week ago, he got the first few paperbacks and, and, and I was lucky enough to get one of those copies. Woo woo! In the spirit of Zombies, here's me (on the left) and Tim (on the right) as we met up a nearby yogurt shop. Dairy and the undead---- a perfect combo!
I just finished the book yesterday morning and let me tell you, it's a wild, naughty, and zombie-gore filled ride. I laughed out loud several times, had to reread a few of the s.e.x. scenes as they're outrageously vivid, and squirmed at some of the zombie carnage. Let's see if I can do a succinct description.....
Set in the present day after some sort of apocalyptic event has seemingly turned everyone into Zombies, a handfull of survivors are nativagating their way through this horrific new world. And they're really, really horny. My favorite character is named Jill: an aging ex-porn turned nurse who has a certain ability that I'll say in some circles might be considered a super-power and in others, may be thought of as an affliction. She's got a past that would even give Charlie Sheen pause and has a secret or two. Then there's Molly, a reality TV winning wannabe and what she greatly lacks in intelligence she makes up for in confidence. Her biggest dream is to win an American Idol type of show and leave her terrible past behind her. Even in the midst of this Zombie mayhem, Molly still has aspirations of being named the next rising star by popular vote. Ace works as a security guard at Jill's hospital and he's a serious prick with a seriously little prick. Oops, spoiler alert! He's nasty through and through. Then there's strapping Walt and shy Joey who form a special bond which Tim describes in.... ah.... blush....... explicit deal. I had to say Damn Tim, this shit is nasty and I love it a few times.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It's genre bending for sure: horror, camp, funny, disturbing, and there's tons of sex. Man on man sex and man on woman sex. If you're not up for that then this isn't your type of book. If you are up for it and want to try something wild then Zombielicious will certainly tickle your fancy. It's available here on Amazon, on the publisher's site, as well as being available in Ebook form. I'd say the only thing that's off with the book is the cover Tim knows how I feel about that but don't let that throw you off. This book definitely has notes of the B horror movie genre so the cover kind of embodies that. Here it is.
Zombie wishes and undead dreams to you all! I gotta mention Tim is getting revved up to work on the sequel and there's a character who's inspired by Atlanta's Phaedra. Foie Gras anyone?
I'd like to introduce you to a sleek and shining, up and coming supermodel. 19-year-old Aussie model Andrej Pejic is a male but thanks to his gender-neutral look, he's been tearing up the NYC catwalks in both men and women's clothing. Get it!
Would you be able to tell that's a male? And if you could, would it matter? I'll go ahead and answer no and no. Above Pejic is wearing a Gaultier gown which was also recently worn by Rihanna at the 2011 Grammy Awards. Again, get it! Here are a couple more photos of Andrej.
According to this great article in the Post, Pejic is the first model to walk in New York fashion shows for both genders. And........ as women typically make 35 to 50% more than men, Andrej is commanding and getting the same rate of a female model.
“It’s an industry, and this is my job. It’s not really a political movement,” Pejic says. “I guess the people that use me do that. But yeah, hopefully that does translate into a move into mainstream society.”
Does the name Gay Carrington ring any bells? She's from those bygone days of Hollywood where starlets got 5 picture deals from a major studio--- Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall, Joan Crawford come to mind. But what about Gay? The sun hasn't set on her career just yet...... she's very close to becoming an internet sensation and I was happy to be the first guest artist featured on her site. Here's my loving tribute to Miss Carrington.
I was asked to illustrate the talented men and woman (there's just a one) of Gawker.com for their new format which is now in operation. Next to each writer- editor is one of my images. Woo woo!! The illustrations are itty bitty on their site so I'm posting them in all their glory here. In alphabetical order: Adrian, Brian, Hamilton, Jeff, Jim, John, Maureen, Max, Remy, Richard, Ryan, Seth, and Matt.
Thanks Gawker! And thank you for indulging my show and tell.
If any of you need an illustration for your business, please contact me for a quote.
"The response and support our family has received is simply amazing. Through the donations and sale of Aidan's art, the family has been able to avoid financial ruin. The family had considered the sale of their home, and Aidan's father began to look for a 2nd job to offset the impact of the additional medical expense."
That's just part of their statement and you can read the whole thing and see more of Aidan's adorable drawings on the etsy shop which the family has set up. Wishing that family all the best and looking forward to seeing decades of artwork from Aiden.
